New systems - What's included ?

A standard solar system has the following components:

  • Collectors - usually 4 square metres for a 2-4 person household
  • Heat store - either a vented or pressurised cylinder, or a thermal store
  • Pump station - designed to circulate antifreeze around the system quietly and efficiently
  • Controller - switches the pump on when there is solar heat to be harvested

We will install all of these components, unless other building work is in hand, in which case we will happily leave it to the plumber of your choice to install the heat store.

For more information on how solar thermal systems work, download this very comprehensive document produced by the Energy Saving Trust in conjunction with the Solar Trade Association :

Below is a very simplyfied schematic of a typical solar thermal system. We can also provide other system designs.
